Festive dressing in chikankari doesn't have to mean heavy or over-the-top — the craft's strength is in fine detailing, which reads as elegant even in a rich fabric or a bold colour.
Pick the fabric for the occasion
Daytime festival visits, pujas, and family gatherings → a chanderi or georgette kurta set holds embroidery detail well without being too warm indoors.
Evening celebrations → richer fabrics with named techniques like jaali or mukesh work catch the light better under evening lighting.
Colour choices
Classic white-on-white or pastel chikankari remains a strong, elegant choice for any festival and photographs beautifully.
Deeper festive colours — black, navy, maroon — with contrast embroidery are a good option if you want something that stands out more in a group photo.
